Providence Living at The Views will retain the community’s connection to history
Located of the grounds of the former community hospital, the existing care home – called The Views at St. Joseph’s — reflects the site’s legacy, its connection to the Sisters of Providence, and its deep connection to the community that dates back for more than 100 years.
After having heard from many across the community, Providence Living has decided to adjust the name of the new build taking place on the Comox site, from Providence Living Place, Together by the Sea to Providence Living at The Views.
Providence Living at The Views will replace The Views at St. Joseph’s when it opens in 2024.
“On behalf of Providence Living, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for everyone who has taken time since 2020 either to participate in the new facility naming process or who voiced an opinion about why new names aren’t always better than the old ones,” said Mark Blandford, President & CEO, Providence Living. “We’re pleased to re-think the name of our new care village so that it honours the local history that the community of Comox holds dear.”
Construction on Providence Living at The Views — a 156-bed, $52.6 million project — began in early 2022 with an official construction-start celebration taking place on June 13. Modelled on the concept of a dementia village.
Providence Living at The Views will also feature a new, personalized, resident-driven model of care, called Home for Us, where residents live together in small neighbourhoods, enjoy freedom of movement, safe access to the outdoors and interaction with the community, including opportunities for intergenerational connection.
