A Community Legacy

Founded in 1907, the City Centre Care Society (CCCS) provided residential health programs to Vancouver’s inner city. Most recently, CCCS provided complex care services, addiction programs and seniors assisted living services in two downtown Vancouver locations – at Central City Lodge and at Cooper Place.

On December 24, 2022, City Centre Care Society formally merged with Providence Living in an operational and asset transfer, bringing City Centre Lodge into the Providence fold.

Providence Living will honour the City Centre Care Society legacy. Residents will continue find a place of caring when living in a Providence Living facility as they did when the facility was owned and operated by City Centre Care Society.

Leadership

Long-term care homes provide a wide range of health and personal care services for people with medical or physical needs who require access to 24-hour nursing care, personal care and other therapeutic and support services.

Professional nursing care is provided on a 24-hour basis to residents by registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, licensed practical nurses and registered care aides. Most residents choose to see one of our house physicians or our nurse practitioner to direct their personal medical care while living at Central City Lodge.

Additional services are also provided on site by our Rehabilitation Team (consisting of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and rehabilitation assistant) as well as from a site-dedicated pharmacist and a visiting podiatrist and foot-care team.

The Addiction Recovery Program (ARP) is a 90-day abstinence-based residential alcohol and drug recovery program offered by Providence Living at Central City Lodge. Our facility is home to adults who self-identify as men who are interested in pursuing recovery from alcohol and drugs.

ARP’s program goal is to provide every participant with an optimal opportunity for growth and skill development to assist in the achievement of a personal addiction recovery plan. ARP utilizes a number of strategies to facilitate a change in lifestyle. These include group life skills, group work, self-improvement, and individual case work, as well as a re-entry component which links residents to community resources, such as supported housing, education and employment programs, support groups, and outpatient counselling services.

The Addiction Recovery Program is for:

  • Men who are 19 years of age or older
  • Men who have detoxified from alcohol and other drugs
  • Men who are committed to seeking assistance to achieve the goal of maintaining abstinence from alcohol and other drugs, including men stabilized on a Methadone or Sub Oxone maintenance protocol.
  • Priority is given to men living in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. The purpose of ARP is to support residents with the information and skills to obtain stability, maintain abstinence from substances of abuse and to transition into the community with the tools to continue achieving their life goals.

Meals

Central City Lodge provides all meals and snacks every day. An open and friendly dining room is available where meals are served in a comfortable and social setting. Personal preferences are considered and a dietitian is available to ensure that special needs are identified and met.

Family members, friends and loved ones can purchase meal tickets and are welcome to join residents at lunch or supper. The menu includes a variety of home-cooked meals and desserts.

Recreation & Entertainment

Recreation staff work to provide scheduled activity programs with therapeutic values that are compatible to our residents’ interest, needs and abilities. Our activity calendars reflect a balance of emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual, creative and social properties.

Each resident’s recreational and leisure interests is assessed, and our recreation staff then develops individual care plans to best meet resident needs.

Housekeeping & Laundry

Central City Lodge provides a safe, spacious, comfortable and clean home for all residents. Residents’ room are kept clean and personal clothing is laundered on site.

Admission to long-term care at Central City Lodge is based on an assessment of each resident’s individual needs. These needs are determined through an eligibility assessment conducted by a community case manager. These assessments are then reviewed by the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Priority Access team.

Appropriate matches to Central City Lodge are determined as beds become available. All inquiries regarding eligibility should be directed to your local community Health Unit. They will then arrange for a case manager to conduct an eligibility assessment as required.
