Prince George’s newest care village is one step closer to completion as the roof approaches the final stage of construction on Providence Living’s latest innovative home, Providence Living at The Rivers.

This marks a major milestone for the new village, which will feature Providence Living’s groundbreaking new care model, Home for Us.

Home for Us is a social-relational model of care based on three main principles:

  • Emotional connections matter most
  • Residents direct each moment
  • Home is not a place, it’s a feeling

Further information on Home for Us can be found on the Providence Living website.

Despite the roof in Prince George now being securely fixed, Providence Living CEO and President Mark Blandford says the organization isn’t putting a ceiling on their plans to redefine long-term care across BC.

“Whilst it is great to hit another milestone and continue to be ahead of schedule in our build, this is just another step in a much bigger plan to redefine long-term care across the province.”

“We’re extremely excited to be moving forward with our plans for new villages in Quesnel and Smithers as well as continuing to implement our innovative new care model across our sites in Vancouver and Comox.”

This new village in Prince George is slated to open in April 2028. The Quesnel village is expected to be open to residents in late 2028, with the Smithers village scheduled to be open in 2030.

The addition of these villages will provide 580 new publicly funded beds for the community as well as a range of job opportunities across the different sites.
